The reunion began on Friday, October 1st. The majority of
the day was occupied by a long but productive Board of Directors
meeting. On Friday evening, cousins and friends gathered for the
Belle Star Buffet dinner. After Art Wyckoff led the group in prayer, all
enjoyed a delicious meal. Dinner was followed by an extremely informative
slide lecture by Chris Macek, Director of the Old Las Vegas Mormon
Fort, who enlightened those present regarding the settlement of
the Las Vegas area.
Saturday's events began with a buffet breakfast, which was
served poolside. Those attending had ample opportunity to compare
notes and share information regarding their genealogical research,
in preparation for the formal genealogy workshop, which would soon
follow. At the genealogy workshop, President Tom Wycuff demonstrated
the long-awaited CD, which contains the latest edition of the Wyckoff
Family's genealogy. At the annual meeting, which followed, the
various officers of the association presented their reports,
and Executive Director Dr. Sean Sawyer, using slides, updated the
membership regarding the reconfiguration of the park surrounding
the House, and the pending relocation of the Wyckoff Durling Barn
from New Jersey to the House. Regional and chapter representatives
discussed the activities of their local groups, and Directors of
the association were duly elected. The annual meeting was followed
by a brief Board of Directors meeting, at which officers were elected
by the board.
Cousins and friends then gathered poolside
to enjoy a family-style Southwestern BBQ lunch. Following lunch,
a number of the attendees participated in a tour of the world-famous Vegas strip, which
included a stop at the Bellagio Hotel, where they visited the breathtaking
Conservatory Room. The group then proceeded to the Stratosphere
tower, and traveled via high-speed elevators to the observation
deck at the top, where they were able to enjoy a panoramic
view of Las Vegas.
Saturday culminated in the annual banquet.
After Art and Xantha Wycoff led the group in prayer, and in the
singing of the Kremser, accompanied by Art's son, Steven, on
the euphonium, dinner was served. Following a delicious dinner,
those present were treated to the promised surprise entertainment:
a performance by the talented (and beautiful) magician, Arian
Black. Executive Director Dr. Sean Sawyer took the opportunity
to recognize those who supported him and his staff throughout
the year, and presented them with tokens of his appreciation. Sarah Wyckoff, standing in for her father,
William S. (Bill) Wyckoff, who unfortunately could not be present,
continued the longstanding tradition of presenting Lucky Bucks.
Many lovely door prizes were raffled, and Pieter's hat was passed.
The evening concluded with the traditional line count, in which
the Nicholas line, as usual, predominated.
The reunion concluded Sunday morning, when cousins and friends
once again gathered poolside for a farewell buffet breakfast. Many
fond reminiscences were exchanged, goodbyes were said, and plans
to see one another in Charleston at the 2005 reunion were made.
