Pinkster: An African-Colonial Celebration A memorial celebration of Pentecost in Colonial Brooklyn. Saturday, May 17th, 2008 12 noon - 4 pm Free
Pinkster is a colonial African and Dutch celebration of Pentecost A time when African slaves were given the day off to enjoy feasts and participate in the revelry. This was the only holiday where slaves could mingle with the masses on a personal level. Come celebrate with the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum!
Ongoing Family Workshop: Making Herbal Sachets
12:15 pm Tour of the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum
1:15 pm Dr. Sherrill D. Wilson will give a discussion about “Traveling the New York African-American Experience from 1637 - 1865 ”*. This program, which is free and open to the public, is made possible through the support of the New York Council for the Humanities’ Speakers in the Humanities program.
1:30—3:30pm Open Hearth Cooking
2:00 pm A Performance by The Brooklyn Ecumenical Choir of Bedford-Stuyvesant under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Pates Eaton and Mr. Lawrence P. Wrenn
2:30 pm Children’s African Dance Class: Learn how to perform a traditional African dance, and perform it for the crowd!
3:30 pm A Performance by The Brooklyn Ecumenical Choir of Bedford-Stuyvesant
