Twice a year, the Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum opens its doors to Homeschoolers for a very special learning experience; where Homeschoolers will learn about Colonial Brooklyn. Each year, we have a different theme, but the basic objectives for each student is to:
· Discover the origins of Brooklyn farms (bouweries) and their relationship with New Amsterdam,
· Understand the interdependence of the Dutch, Native Americans, and free and enslaved Africans,
· Depict the life of a colonial family in New Amersfoort (Flatlands, Brooklyn),
· Examine various objects to discover their purpose and how we use similar objects today, and
· Determine how New Amsterdam evolved in to the colony of New York to New York City part of the United States of America.
